QR code for a phone number
A code that opens the dialler with your number already in it. Nothing is dialled until the person presses call.
A phone QR code stores a tel: number, so a phone opens its dialler with the number filled in.
Style this code — colour, shape, branding, frame and output
Colour & contrastThe ink, the paper behind it, and the three eyes. Every choice is contrast-checked as you make it.
ShapeHow the squares are drawn. The three eyes are styled apart from the data, because a scanner finds the code by them.
BrandingYour mark on the code. Every picture here costs scanability — the notes say how much, and the preview is the truth.
Frame & captionA border and a line of text around the code — the "scan me" that tells a passer-by what it is for.
OutputWhat comes out of the download buttons, and what the symbol actually carries.
Print-ready PDF
A press file at the finished size: 3mm bleed, crop marks and a trim box a print shop’s checks read. The code is drawn black on white whatever the design above — how a colour prints is something only a test print can show.
Does a phone QR code call automatically?
A tel: code opens the phone app with the number entered and stops there. No platform lets a scanned code place a call on its own, which is why this is safe to put on a poster — and why the code cannot be used to make someone ring a premium line.
Write the number the way a stranger will use it
Country code, no spaces needed. A local-format number scans fine and then fails for anyone dialling from outside the country, which on a tourist-facing sign is most of the people scanning it.
Short payload, small print
A phone number is about fourteen characters, so the symbol stays at a low version and tolerates being printed small. It is one of the few types where a business card is genuinely enough room.
Phone number QR codes
Will it call the number automatically?
No. It opens the dialler with the number filled in and waits for the person to press call.
Can I add an extension?
Some diallers honour a comma for a pause followed by digits; many ignore it. Treat an extension as something to print beside the code rather than inside it.
Should I use this or a vCard?
A vCard saves a contact; this one places a call now. On a shopfront, this. On a business card, the vCard.
Does it work for a landline?
Any number a phone can dial works, landlines included. Write it with the country and area code, because a scan does not know where the person is standing.
