Open GS1 from the sidebar; the screen is called Product links. GS1 Digital Link puts your product number, the GTIN, into a web address on your own domain. One printed code then answers several questions. Retailers worldwide have committed to scanning 2D barcodes carrying GS1 data by the end of 2027.
Before you start
- A verified custom domain. The barcode carries its hostname, so it must be one you control. See Custom domains.
- A plan that includes product links. Pricing shows which plans do.
- A GTIN licensed to your business by GS1.
1. Add a product by its GTIN
Choose Add a product, pick the domain, and enter the 14-digit GTIN from your GS1 licence. Its check digit is verified as you type.
Confirm that your business licenses this GTIN from GS1. We record who confirmed it and when. We can't verify GS1 licences, so this is your statement, and a false one is grounds for removal.
The barcode resolves from the moment the product is added.
2. Say which page answers what
Add a page for each question a scan can ask: the product page, allergens, nutrition, instructions, recall status and more. Exactly one page is the Default, which is what a scan gets when it asks for nothing in particular.
A scan that asks for a page the product doesn't have gets a clear miss rather than the wrong page. The screen counts these, so you can add the missing page.
Batches that answer differently
Choose Add a batch to answer differently for one batch or lot, for a recall, for instance. A scan of a batch you haven't listed falls back to the product's pages.
If you list batches but not the product itself, a scan of the plain product barcode finds nothing. Choose Add the product to fix that.
3. Print the link it gives you
Each product shows its link to print. Choose Make a QR code to make one from it here.
Remove a product
Choose Remove the product…. Its barcode stops resolving on your domain.
