MANAGING CODES

Managing a barcode

A barcode's own page: what it encodes, whether it prints reliably, downloads and label sheets.

Open a barcode from the library to see its page.

What it encodes

  • Value, and the check digit if one was added.
  • Symbology: the format.
  • Style: where the digits sit, the bar height and the digits size.
  • Print width, with a verdict. Prints reliably means the bars are wide enough at that width. Bars too thin means the X-dimension is below GS1's minimum for retail point of sale, so print it wider.
  • Scans: Not counted. A barcode is read by a till or a scanner, not through a link, so nothing counts it.

Download

Choose SVG, PDF or EPS for print. They're vector, so a print shop can scale them to any size without softening the bars. PNG is for a screen.

When you print, keep the quiet zones on each side clear, and never stretch the bars horizontally on their own.

Label sheet

Choose Label sheet to print many copies on standard label stock:

  1. Pick the Label stock. Each option names its paper size (A4 or US Letter), how many labels fit on a sheet, and each label's size.
  2. Enter how many Labels you need.
  3. Download Sheet PDF or Sheet SVG.

Every label prints at the barcode's saved print width, so the X-dimension holds. A label too small for that width is refused rather than shrunk. Print at 100% scale, not "fit to page".

More actions

  • Edit: change the value, style, size or colours. See Editing a barcode.
  • Copy value.
  • Star, so it appears with your starred codes in the library.
  • Archive: takes the barcode out of your library list. A printed barcode always scans, archived or not. Choose Restore to bring it back.
